The MLB All-Star break is here, and that means we have the All-Star Game Tuesday night. Zac Gallen and Gerrit Cole will start this game for their respective leagues, but other than that, the starting lineups don’t mean a ton, since we know like every year there will be a lot of substitutions throughout the night. The brightest stars will be on the biggest stage, and hopefully we can still find some value. This event can be hard to predict so let’s discuss some of the best picks on the board for PrizePicks.

Shohei Ohtani Over 0.5 Total Bases

This one almost seems too good to be true. Shohei Ohtani is the biggest star in the game right now. He’s having a great season and might even push for the American League home run record down the stretch. Ohtani is batting second for the American League, which I think gives him a pretty decent chance to have multiple plate appearances. Even if he gets walked or makes an out in his first plate appearances, he should get another chance to get a base hit and cover this prop.

Gerrit Cole and Zac Gallen Over 2.5 Strikeouts

This one is interesting, because it’s tough to find really good value on PrizePicks for the All-Star game. Both of these pitchers might only pitch one inning because it’s the All-Star Game, but if Gerrit Cole has a really good first inning it’s at least possible that he starts the second inning. Cole’s matchup is interesting too as the No. 2-4 hitters in the National League lineup are Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez. He’s essentially facing the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cole has already faced the Dodgers this year and struck out five in six innings. The majority of the American League lineup is made up of Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays and Shohei Ohtani. Zac Gallen has faced the Rays and Angels recently and faced the Rangers early in the season. He’s also a tremendous strikeout pitcher with 125 strikeouts in 118 innings this season. The hitters might do some damage in the first inning, but there are a few ways for the pitchers to get three strikeouts. If one of Cole or Gallen strikes out at least two batters in the first inning, we just need the other one to strike out one batter. If Cole gets to start the second inning, he could cover this by himself.

Mookie Betts and Corbin Carroll Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Mookie Betts is hitting third for the National League, and as one of the biggest stars in all of baseball he has a good chance of getting multiple plate appearances. If he does get multiple plate appearances, he could cover this on his own. 1.5 is an especially low number for multiple players to cover. There’s just more unpredictability involved here because it’s the All-Star Game. Even if Betts only gets one plate appearance, he could be motivated to do some damage here after a poor showing in the Home Run Derby last night. Betts has 26 home runs already this season after all. I also like the pairing with Carroll, who’s batting eighth for the National League. Even though these batters aren’t next to each other in the lineup, Carroll might get to face an easier pitcher to hit than Cole if he ends up getting his first plate appearance in the second or third inning.
