Tenacious Targets: NFL DFS GPP picks for Wild Card Weekend

This NFL DFS article will give my personal plays for DraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo and SuperDraft. I will walk you through my process of selecting each player. I have gone through each game and each position, and these are my favorite plays that I have landed on.

With quarterbacks I want someone capable of running so I can score in two categories. With running backs, I typically want someone who is also a pass catcher. With wide receivers I want guaranteed targets in a favorable matchup. With tight ends I want consistency.

Here are my plays for the Sunday slate of the Wild Card Round. Saturday plays can be found on the FTN Daily cheat sheets .

Quarterback Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott has the most pass-catching depth at his disposal on this slate in CeeDee Lamb , Amari Cooper , Cedrick Wilson , Dalton Schultz and Ezekiel Elliott in what is expected to be a close game. This is a large reason why I am choosing him over Tom Brady , who has lost two of his top three receivers. While the 49ers have made some improvements lately, they are still a pass funnel defense. They have the third-worst adjusted completion percentage on the season (77.5%) and are dead last on the slate. Prescott is my QB1.

Patrick Mahomes , Tom Brady

Running Back Darrel Williams, Kansas City Chiefs The Pittsburgh Steelers are last in rush DVOA and Darrel Williams is going to get another large workload with Clyde Edwards-Helaire out. The Kansas City Chiefs are going to score, so if you are fading Patrick Mahomes , it would be a good idea to get exposed to the run game. He has also been dealing with a toe injury this week, which may keep his rostership down a bit more than it should (although it is a small slate). On teams I don’t have Williams — and some that I do — I will be playing Mahomes.

Wide Receiver Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers My expectation is the Steelers are playing from behind in this one, which is only going to help Diontae Johnson ’s cause. He is only behind Cooper Kupp in targets this season with 170. He has the fifth-most receptions, trailing only Tyreek Hill on the Sunday slate. Hopefully Ben Roethlisberger is going to have to air it out most of the second half in what should be his swan song. Johnson will move all over the field, giving him a plus matchup for more than half of the game against Rashad Fenton , which is a good thing. He is a better play on DraftKings where you get a point per reception.

Cedrick Wilson, Dallas Cowboys Cedrick Wilson has been stepping in for Michael Gallup admirably all season long. Last week we saw his ceiling with 5 receptions for 119 yards and 2 TDs. The week before, Wilson came in for the injured Gallup and scored a touchdown on six receptions. When Gallup was out in Weeks 2-9, Wilson sprinkled in another 3 touchdowns. He will lineup primary against K'Waun Williams of the 49ers secondary. Williams is allowing the second-highest catch rate of the weekend (84%). Wilson is still underpriced for his role. No, he isn’t going to get the volume of Amari Cooper or CeeDee Lamb , but it shouldn’t be too far off. He has gained the trust of Dak Prescott and has shown big-play upside. He is also going to have the best WR/CB matchup on the Cowboys. I’m rolling him out with confidence.

Byron Pringle, Kansas City Chiefs Byron Pringle runs primarily out of the slot, which puts him on Arthur Maulet , who is allowing the highest catch rate on the three-day slate (87%). He will also spend about 21% of the time on the right against Cameron Sutton (70% catch rate). It should be noted that Tyreek Hill also runs most of his routes out of the slot and is in a great position to succeed but he is significantly more expensive. If you don’t decide to go with Hill, choosing another Chiefs pass catcher, like Pringle, would be wise.

Tight End Rob Gronkowski, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rob Gronkowski is a lock this week. All season I have recommend tight ends against the Eagles. They are the worst in the NFL against the position. They have allowed the most TDs (14) and the most receptions (107) while being targeted the second most. Overall, they give up 14.3 FanDuel points per game to the position (tied with the Chargers). Tampa is short on pass catchers with only Mike Evans and maybe Leonard Fournette as trusted options. Tom Brady knows that targeting tight ends against Philly is the sweet spot and he is going to feed his Gronk. Double TD Day for the big man incoming.

Side note: Cameron Brate should be in the mix in your MME lineups. He has the same glorious matchup as Rob Gronkowski and will be much lower rostered. Take one in every lineup you make.
